This wasn’t originally planned but, for whatever reason, it dawned on me to do this, and I can’t shake the feeling. I’ve decided to gather up some of my personal posts from 2012 and throw them into one huge article! I figure this will help me understand what I’m good at writing about, what I could work on, and what interests me the most. So, without further ado, let’s dive back into the year of 2012 here at Love’s Spell!

My first K-pop review! How could I ever leave this out? I find this post to be one of my favorites because it finally gave me the chance to put all my thoughts about this album into text. It also surprised me a bit to realize I didn’t like quite a majority of the album. I was surprised to see how little I truly enjoyed of the album. However, I noticed that Shampoo and the photoshoot played a large role in holding this album close to my heart. Now, I realize my mistake with a “misleading title.” When we think of a virgin, we think pure and innocent and naive. A lot of the songs on the album(with the exception of Virgin) are very sweet and airy–kind of matching that image that we think of. I feel as though AS should’ve included a couple of harder, deep-bass songs in here.

My first edition of The K-pop Round Up just has to be included in here. Not only was it my first true K-pop-oriented post, but it introduced to a lot of songs and artists that kept me listening throughout the whole year. I’m no stranger to Miryo, Block B, or Big Bang but their music was top-notch. Newcomers like Spica and Ailee had cemented their talent into the K-pop universe. There were also some artists that didn’t really catch my attention, such as Chocolat and EXID. But overall, February 2012 was a pretty good K-pop music month.

Aika and Risa finally say goodbye to Morning Musume as the rest of the girls saddle up for a brand new era of the group. I love this post for the fact that I was finally able to let out my feelings about Morning Musume’s new direction and Sayumi’s upcoming reign. Aika was a rather deadweight character but still had certain charms and silly points about her. Risa was a notorious young girl who transformed into a gorgeous young woman. Both had their time in Morning Musume and now it was time to set sail. With Sayumi as the new leader, the group was ready to undergo some serious changes. And just look at how far they’ve come! I also used way too much bold in this post…

A very popular post from 2012, I might add. Park Kahi announces that she will graduate from After School, the group she’s served as leader and mother for over 3 years. It hurt a lot. Park Kahi is someone I look up to and she was the only reason I still listened to AS after Bekah’s departure. She held the group together like glue and now, without her, that glue is slowly losing its strength. I don’t think the group can reach the popularity and recognition they held in previous years without her.

I can die now with no regrets. Berryz Koubou made their second USA appearance in Somerset, New Jersey on June 8th-9th. Seriously, Somerset? I had never even heard of Somerset before this announcement and I fucking live in New Jersey. Anyway, this post wraps up the ups and downs I faced while attending the convention particularly to see my ultimate idol love, Berryz Koubou. I still cherish the moment when Saki and Risako waved directly at me. Ahh… the memories… *tear*

I try to make sense of what happened to Rino Sashihara and her nude picture scandal. Rino’s quick escalation to frontgirl in AKB48 was ripped out from under her as fast as it happened. An “ex-boyfriend” leaked precious “evidence” that Rino was in a romantic relationship during her lesser days of AKB48. The story has quite a few plotholes and I just can’t find myself to believe it. Rino has never struck me as a confident or out-spoken person so I truly believe that she just didn’t have the backbone to stand up for herself or confess which details were true and which weren’t.

My extensive review of Morning Musume’s slump-breaking single, One・Two・Three / The Matenrou Show. I spent the whole post explaining the good and the bad of the single but overall, loving the new direction Morning Musume has taken. The main reason for writing the article, however, was to address the fact that a lot of folks were at everyone’s throats because they didn’t like the single. Chill out! Just because you don’t like the song doesn’t mean everyone who does is a fucktard!

Risa and Ai’s graduation singles fight in a duel to the death to determine which is the superior single. I really enjoyed creating this post for the pure fun of it. Unfortunately, I wish the end result was more of a close call haha!

Rankings are always a blast to create. Here, I let you guys know which members captivated me in 2012. Unsurprisingly, Berryz Koubou dominates most of the top ten, LOL.

I contemplate how much longer PSY will stay under the public light and if it’s enough to make more out of him. As of now, the Gangnam Style craze has died down despite still being number one on YouTube. And to add, I’m not sure if PSY can make it as a foreign talent over here.

Tsunku gives all of the Hello! Project Fanverse whiplash when he announces the sole winner of the 11th generation auditions just a day after releasing the names of the finalists. Seriously, what is up with that? Well, at least she can sing.

I go apeshit for Perfume’s best single in a long time. HURLY BURLY PATI!

The emotional and breathtaking documentary that solidified my love for AKB48. Here I take you throughout the movie, pointing out key facts and things that made me understand. If you ever get the chance to watch this documentary, do it. You will not regret it.

I get fed up with bastards finding some stupid way to link Hyun Ah’s Ice Cream and Ga In’s Bloom. They’re two totally different songs by two totally different artists with two totally different meanings. Just stop. Oh, and the whole “slut-shaming” term is addressed. Thankfully, I don’t hear this term as often, but when I do, I literally want to rip my eyelashes out.

This album officially makes me a Darling. Dal Shabet’s first full-length album is filled with diversity and variety while still maintaining that funky Dal Shabet flavor. Despite some drawbacks and flaws of the album, it still ends up being my favorite album from 2012.

It has always bothered me that the word fanservice has been mangled and toyed with all because of K-pop. Now, a side-effect of involving yourself in K-pop means you have to deal with the homosexual physical contact that is egged on by fans. I, personally, couldn’t care less about the skinship–it doesn’t interest me and never will. But in a world where homosexuality is frowned upon, why is it okay for idols to do it?

Just because a lot of people buy it, doesn’t automatically mean it’s amazing. Here, I try to understand the concept of spending money on something–idol CDs in this case–and why people assume that high sales = a better artist. I come to the conclusion that high sales = more money in management’s pocket.
