Morning Musume – Fantasy!Juuichi Review

Time for a new review! Another MM album~ This time it’s their 11th album, Fantasy!Juuichi, that released on December 1st, 2010. My favorite songs are bolded.

01. Onna to Otoko no Lullaby Game (AL Version)

I had already loved this song to begin with. Now that it’s extended and has more orchestra, it makes it one hundred times more lovable. This version doesn’t have much more than the original song except more orchestra, like I said, and longer pause moments. Other than that, it’s basically the same song. Still, this deserves some Kio love. 8D

02. Bravo!

Bravo! is a strong rock-ish type song. It starts out kinda corny, imo; “BURABO BURABO!” just sounds lame. Either way, the song is really upbeat and fun. I really love the chorus; it’s catchy and I love their unity. Most of the song is sung in groups with a few solo words sung by Ai. I don’t really like the instrumental break, however, it sounds really fake(even though it most likely is xD). But this song is one of my favorites, very cool and fun.

03. Fantasy ga Hajimaru

This song became an instant fan favorite when it was leaked. I’m not as convinced. Yeah, it’s a nice song and all, but it’s just not one I’d play on repeat. It has a major Sayumi lead(which isn’t a bad thing considering she’s autotuned). The only other singers throughout are Ai and Reina. The song is electro-pop and if you like that type of thing, you’ll like the song. For me, I’d only listen to this song if it goes through my shuffle.

04. Onna Gokoro to Nanto Yara

The song starts off kinda kiddish; little bubble sounds is what I like to call them, lol. It’s mostly lead by Risa, who does a fine job. The song is like a semi-ballad, having aspects of a ballad but not completely being one. However, the song overall isn’t too great. It’s instrumental is pretty good, but something about the lyrics makes it sound really mediocre. The “wow yeah yeah, blahahsahha” sounds really corny, too. It sounds like a song they did in one try.

05. Ai no Honoo [Reina Tanaka]

Totally love this song. It’s really, really pretty. It’s basically a ballad with some urban aspects sprinkled in. Even though it’s Reina, and I love Reina, I think a different singer would have been better. For whatever reason, Reina doesn’t really fit it; maybe Risa would’ve sounded more suitable. Either way, the song is really soothing and sweet. Kio likes.

06. I’m Lucky girl

The whole guitar opening reminded me exactly of Bravo! and I totally expected them to sing “BURABO BURABO!” The song is rock-ish at some points but also has eletro bits and pieces. Besides the bad grammar in the title, the song has a lot of cons. For one, it just doesn’t flow. There’s a lot of crap just all over the place, including that robotic voice saying WOWOWWWOWOW about seventy times. The verses don’t sound very interesting, the whole repeating a phrase thing is very annoying. The only part of the whole song I like is the chorus.

07. Sungoi My Birthday

This song is so annoying, lmfao. But I really like it. The song is dominated by mostly 8th gen. It has that let’s-just-have-fun feel. It’s happy and sweet. It’s just adorable and I really like everything about it. I really love those CHU LU LU LU parts, too, haha. I can’t get enough of those.

08. Ichi Kara Juu Made Aishite Hoshii

This song, honestly, doesn’t have much to it. I can’t really say it’s super interesting or makes you want to listen. It’s kind of boring, really. It’s just a generic upbeat song with a cute sound. Not much stood out to me.

09. Itoshiku Kurushii Kono Yoru ni

Definitely another favorite of mine. It has a very trance-like feel to it. The song is mainly dominated by Ai, Eri, and Reina. The song’s piano and guitar are two of the factors of my love for this song. I also really love the violin(or at least it sounds like one) that plays through most of the song. The instrumental break is really awesome, too. I love spacey sounding songs like this–Kio’s bias.

10. Denwa de ne [Ai Takahashi]

This song kinda makes me laugh xD I dunno why, but it just reminds me of porn music, LOL. Don’t judge. Some pieces just sound really corny. I’m just thinking in my head, “Who thought this actually sounded good?” I guess some people might like it. It’s a sweet ballad. But I can’t really bring myself to like it, lol.

11. Seishun Collection

I’m not a big fan of this song, but it’s not too bad. Sometimes, I do find myself humming it. But it does remind me of a lot of other MM songs. Some people have pointed it out that it sounds like a mixture of Nanchatte Renai & Shouganai Yume Oibito, and I do have to agree. There’s not much originality in the song but it is nice to listen to sometimes because I’m a sucker for violins and pianos.

Overall: Out of the 11 songs, 9 songs were completely original to the album. Most people felt that the album sounded a bit rushed. Honestly, I can’t really tell the difference between an album that took 2 months or 2 years to make. Yeah, some of the songs were corny and sounded like they barely spent time on them, but I dunno, almost every album has one or two of those types of songs. I did like how some of the songs stood true to the theme of fantasy and whimsical. Itoshiku Kurushii Kono Yoru ni had to have been my favorite, and I couldn’t really pick a least favorite because all of the ones I didn’t like…were all at the bottom of the barrel. I didn’t think there was a lot of variety in the songs. Yes, they almost all sounded different but it wasn’t really ear-catching, imo. I give the album a mediocre score. It could’ve been better. And there could’ve been more EriJunLin action.
