Along with Yuuka leaving on the very last day on 2011, Risa is set to graduate in the spring. Can I just say… I CALLED THIS?? I knew Risa wouldn’t be able to last more than a year. I love Risa, but sometimes we have to let them move on. This is Risa’s statement:

I, Niigaki Risa, will be graduating from Morning Musume。 and Hello! Project with this year’s Spring tour. I had been thinking about graduation myself, for about a year, I had thought about graduating with Takahashi Ai-chan… but with the new members joining and everything, I postponed it just a little bit. After my Morning Musume graduation, I’ll be studying full force in acting; I feel like I want to challenge myself with experiences in theater and dramas that I couldn’t have experienced while I was doing group activities. But, with these months I have left in Morning Musume, I’ll be giving it my very best as leader!

Boom. She even wanted to leave with Ai-chan. How does that not prove my point that she can’t be without her other half!? She wants to go into acting, which is awesome. I can’t wait to see the different dramas and shows she decides to do–Risa is the best PV actress of all MoMusu, IMO. I really support Risa’s decision and I hope she does great!

Above is the adorable PV to Morning Musume’s upcoming single, Pyoko Pyoko Ultra. It’s set to release this Wednesday, January 25th. After watching it fully, I don’t think the PV is that bad. I was kind of expecting something like Maji desu ka Suka!–less centered around cute and more so upbeat and fun. However, I don’t see that much wrong with this single. It’s not that bad of an entering single for the 10th gen, but it’s not the best graduating single for Risa(IF it is). The PV isn’t meant to be all that “high-budget” anyway, so anybody complaining about it being cheap needs to shut up. They want you to focus on the girls and the fun, cute aspect of everything–not the cardboard and colored pencil background, it’s supposed to be like that! Alongside Erina’s upcoming single, Berryz will release their 8th album on the same day. February 22nd will bring Berryz Koubou’s Ai no Uta 8(However, Hello! Project’s site says “Ai no Album 8″). No other information on it yet.

Also in Berryz news, a new single will release on March 12th. It will be titled, Be Genki <Naseba Naru!>. There’s also a rumor stating that it’ll be a double A-side. That would be nice considering the costumes above!

Hopes

+C-ute continues to decline: FAILED! According to what I gathered throughout the Internet, C-ute achieved quite a few highs in 2011. They were the first Japanese group to stream a concert live over YouTube. They also were the first H!P group to create their own Facebook. C-ute was able to sustain the second highest selling singles of the 3 main H!P kids groups. Only releasing 3 singles in 2011, they sold significantly lower than 2010. Their highest selling single of 2011 was Momoiro Sparkling with 23,900+ copies sold. The highest ranking single was Kiss Me Aishiteru at #4 on the Oricon Charts. I think Kiss Me Aishiteru was their strongest single of the year–it had a great PV, dance, and the song was also catchy. So, to conclude, C-ute definitely did not decline and I’m not gonna try to drag them down or anything. What’s the point of that, anyway?

+Morning Musume can find a way to gain more fans: SUCCESS! Even though I didn’t care much about what Morning Musume did after EriJunLin left, Tsunku actually did the smart thing after that: add more members. It’s always been normal for Morning Musume to have a crazy rotation of members; for more or less 2 years, the line-up was the same, thus the fans were the same. If MoMusu were going to have any hope of new fans, adding more members is the way to go. Different girls = different fans. Although I’m not used to this new Morning Musume and I don’t know if I ever will be, it was a smart decision.

+Berryz stop all their Inazuma Eleven promotion: SUCCESS? I haven’t seen any singles that have “ENDING THEME TO INAZUMA ELEVEN” plastered on them. And I haven’t seen them go real nuts with any Inazuma Eleven promotion either. However, Magical Future! was a pretty good song.

+S/mileage continue to do well in sales & promotion: SUCCESS! S/mileage sold a whopping 5 singles in 2011 and did the best among the 3 H!P kid groups. Their highest selling single was Please Miniskirt Post Woman! with 34,000+ sales. The highest ranking single was Uchouten LOVE at #4. S/mileage did well in promotion because of the big craziness with new members and two of the original members leaving so suddenly. It’s no wonder why the graduation singles did the best.

+Buono!’s comeback is big: FAILED! Although people were hoping for something big, most were let down. I didn’t think Zassou no Uta was that bad, but people did. The ranking and sales unfortunately showed its lack of fan love. The two singles of 2011 ranked and sold poorly, both with less than 15,000 sales each. I guess people just weren’t as mesmerized as I was.

+Tsunku continues to rotate centers on Berryz’ singles: FAILED? Although the first single of the year, Heroine ni Narou ka!, did have a Yurina-center, the next two went back to the group’s original lead girl: Risako. Maybe the next two will have another lead girl? As for now, we can’t really tell.

+No one graduates during the year 2011: FAILED! This hope was ruined 9 days into the year and 2 days after I posted my hopes, predictions, and fears list. Ai Takahashi was announced to graduate from H!P on January 9th, 2011. This shocked most people since she had the longest tenure in Morning Musume, has been leader for years, and the 9th generation members were just recently announced before this. Then, Saki Ogawa’s graduation was announced–she left just three or four days later. Next, Yuuka Maeda left H!P at the very end of the year. 2011 took three very important and loved members.

+Frances & Aiko stops, pl0x!: FAILED! Nah, these kids are still working in showbiz, as far as I know. Their last release was last year in January and that’s all I’ve really heard about. Ugh, these girls need to go back to elementary school–for their own sake.

+Ice Creamusume possibly comes back?: FAILED! It was confirmed a long time ago that Ice Creamusume was wiped off of Hello! Project’s roster. Nobody has the slightest clue why. All of their blogs were deleted suddenly and they seemed to just fall off the face of the Earth. The only thing we have left of them is a possible Facebook of Shen Shen under the name of Vivian something. Quite honestly, it’s disappointing.

+A little somethin’, somethin’ happens: SUCCESS! Ai Takahashi is gone. ‘Nuff said.

Predictions

*C-ute keeps on with the whole “mature” shit: SUCCESS? C-ute started the year with Kiss Me Aishiteru but that seemed to be the only “mature” single of the year. Momoiro Sparkling and Sekaiichi HAPPY were upbeat, childish singles without much appeal, IMO. But most likely, they’ll continue this trend, since that “grown-up” C-ute is pretty successful.

*At least one more group is formed: FAILED! Absolutely no new groups were formed in 2011, unless you count Mobekimasu–which is just a collab of all the groups.

*Tsunku does some more stupid ass shit (similar to Muten Musume): FAILED! Thankfully, this prediction was not true. Tsunku didn’t make some stupid group, or announce some retarded promotion. However, the whole S/mileage audition thing was pretty fucked up.

*Some sort of scandal: FAILED! Yay! Nobody got themselves in any scandalous trouble. Save us the heartbreak, girls.

*Some weird ass promotion: FAILED! See “Tsunku is stupi–” Oops, my bad. “Tsunku does some more stupid ass shit.”

*Ongaku Gatas either disbands officially, or releases another single: FAILED! I didn’t hear any news about the Gatas in 2011, so I’m assuming they’re taking somewhat of a hiatus. Maybe 2012 will bring something?

*Kikkawa becomes the next best soloist: FAILED? Yuu isn’t necessarily huge, but she isn’t unknown. I think it’s just her management that needs some work. Keep it up, Yuu.

*Jang Da Yun does something!?!?: SUCCESS! Da Yun actually auditioned for S/mileage and has been dancing backup. One thing that might be holding her back is her Japanese–but then again Linlin and Jun Jun learned it. I also wish she’d work on her confidence and stage presence a bit more. It’s possible that being in the front just isn’t where she should be.

Fears

-A Berryz member graduates: FAILED! Thank the almighty lord that this did not happen. In fact, Berryz had a pretty good year in single quality, IMO. They’ve also even announced that they will be coming to New Jersey. And you know what, I don’t think I will be that devastated not to see a Berryz member anymore. All of them are growing up–Saki is now a woman! If they want to move on, I will allow them and still support them 100%.

-Tsunku adds more members to Berryz or C-ute: FAILED! No members lost, no members gained.

-The age gaps in Morning Musume messes up the group’s image: SUCCESS! Age gaps are pretty weird. You have singles like Only You and Kono Chikyuu where the girls aren’t dressed “fully.” And then you have Pyoko Pyoko Ultra where the girls are dressed as Big Bird. I, personally, don’t want to see a barely pubescent 12 year old girl in a mini skirt and crop top, nor do I want to see a 23 year old woman dressed as a bird. Quite frankly, Morning Musume has lost its spark for me.

-Someone from 9 Gen pisses me off: SUCCESS! Riho is so irritating. Sure, it’s not her fault that she was thrust into the spotlight, but seriously. It’s either you love or hate the person that takes all the spotlight. Riho does nothing for me nor Morning Musume.

-Berryz can’t bounce back: SUCCESS? 2011 wasn’t as bad as 2010, but it wasn’t great. They didn’t do terrible, IMO, but people always go by the sale-count. I just want them to do great again.

-S/mileage’s music turns stale & generic: SUCCESS! I didn’t like the pig song, I didn’t like Uchouten LOVE, Tachiagaaru was shit, and Postwoman is alright. I actually only liked Shortcut throughout the year. S/mileage’s overload of members and generic music isn’t doing it for me..

-Buono! fades away: FAILED! 2011 wasn’t their greatest year, but judging by the reception of their upcoming single, people aren’t forgetting about them. Come on, don’t stop working, Buono!

And that’s 2011 in the eyes of Kio. Obviously, mostly everything was failed. Don’t expect a 2012 list because it’s pretty late in the month already and I haven’t thought enough about it. Let’s just hope 2012 is a good Hello! Project year!

10. Stupid Woman (feat. Bulletproof Boy Scouts) – Kan Mi Youn [WATCH]

The third track in Kan Mi Youn’s first mini-album, WATCH, makes number ten of my list. I always liked Kan Mi Youn, even back when she was in Baby V.O.X.(one of my favorite K-pop girl groups). She had a great voice and a very pretty face. When I saw that she had released a solo mini in February of this year, I had to give it a listen. It turned out that I liked it–even though it was basically typical K-pop. But this song stood out to me the most out of all the songs. There is just something about acoustic songs that draws me in. Along with the fact that it has an urban/R&B beat, makes it even better. But quite frankly, the raps make the song. If those raps didn’t exist in this song, I wouldn’t love it the same at all.

09. Come Back, You Bad Person – Park Kahi [The First Mini Album]

I hadn’t realized Kahi had come out with a solo project until a few weeks after it was released. Let me tell you, I was absolutely OBSESSING over this song. It’s just hardcore and dance-able like hell. There’s no other words to describe this song except awesome. It has this fiesty, grungy electronic sound to it that reminds me of the soundtrack of Mirror’s Edge(a game in which I love to death). Kahi is one of my serious idols and I just had to give this song respect–which is why this song comes in at 9.

08. Tonight – Big Bang [Tonight]

The title track of Big Bang’s album, Tonight, makes number 8. I’ve never really been a Big Bang fan before 2011. Yeah, I would listen to their songs here and there but I didn’t really try to get to know them. However, BB’s most recent album/EP has made me love them a little more. The album’s approach to rock-type music worked, IMO. The song Tonight is a true club song. It’s so easy to imagine this song playing and everyone jumping up and down. The song is so catchy and addictive. I couldn’t help but fall in love with this song.

07. Love Song – Big Bang [Tonight]

This song will definitely be on my top K-pop list forever. The whole acoustic thing does its magic yet again. All the guys sound great and the lyrics are hella catchy. Who the hell cares if they say the same line about 20 times in the song? It freaking works. With all the electro, dance songs in the K-pop music scene nowadays, it’s very refreshing to hear a soothing ballad. I was curios by the video thumbnail and just wanted to give BB a chance. I’m super glad I did, or else I wouldn’t have found this fantastic song and album.

06. NEVERLAND – U-KISS [NEVERLAND]

I love U-KISS. I seriously do. They have great style, presence, and their members are so lovable. NEVERLAND is an amazing dancey track that will keep you listening. The hard beat and smooth vocals really work well. Songs that have hooks–little things that stay in my mind forever–it makes me fall even harder for it. The part right before the chorus, the chorus, and the instrumental break are the pieces I absolutely love. And god, can these boys hit those vocalizations(it’s either Hoon or Soo Hyun). Besides all that, the song is chock full of Kevin–I almost died from my heart pounding.

05. Shakalaka – Dal Shabet [Pink Rocket]

I wanted to give Dal Shabet a try. I was taking in a “wannabe group” vibe.. I thought they just tried to look cute to get some fans, but still try to act as if they were “an original group.” Even though I’m still not too familiar with them, they’re a nice group. I wasn’t really feeling the Pink Rocket album, but then I heard Shakalaka. I was literally blown away. I can barely explain this song in words. It’s cute and retro…but hip-hop at the same time. I absolutely adore when songs can mesh two almost totally different styles but still sound good. Shakalaka is basically the definition of that.

04. Wish You Hadn’t – MBLAQ [BLAQ Style]

This song…this song…this song…IS AMAZING. It’s so hard to explain my love for this one. It’s dancey but still totally smooth. It seriously makes you wanna get up and dance. The whole album is fantastic, quite honestly. MBLAQ is so goddamn talented–whoever does the long note chorus parts is fantastic. Plus, Mir’s rapping is always to die for.

03. Shampoo – After School [Virgin]

Love at first listen. Hands down, no questions asked. I was so beyond happy to hear this as the (almost) first track of Virgin. It’s one of those airy songs that makes you close your eyes and think. The trance-like melody along with a piano and defined beat is so After School. Yes, they are a hip-hop, dance group–but this is still what defines their individuality from other groups. I cannot get enough of Bekah’s rapping or the girls’ beautiful voices. Plus, any K-pop song that is longer than 4 minutes is usually a damn good one.

02. Sixth Sense – Brown Eyed Girls [Sixth Sense]

I really wish I could erase the cover from life–it honestly does not do the album justice(besides the fiesty clothing). Sixth Sense exceeded all expectations I had for this comeback album by BEG. Honestly, I was quite scared to hear it. I thought I had lost my BEG to the tsunami that is the K-pop music scene. But thank god, THANK GOD, my prayers were answered. Sixth Sense brought back that retro and fierce image BEG did so well. It had an orchestra feel while still keeping a defined beat and hardcore attitude. The song outlines BEG’s sexuality and demeanor in a non-sexual or ridiculous way. These women can be sexy and fierce without showing everything that should be tucked away. I honestly believe BEG is one of the best girl groups of all time. Take a hint, Hyun Ah!

01. MACH – Rainbow [SO 女]

I was not expecting to like Rainbow as much as I did. I just thought, “Oh god, it’s just another girl group with too many members! Nothing new here!” But, I was pleasantly surprised with what I heard. Their songs weren’t half bad. And quite honestly, they were better than most of the things I was hearing. They were actual songs. They weren’t just electronic beats thrown together, smashed with an overly energetic dance, sprinkled with highly eccentric outfits. These were actual catchy songs sung by gorgeous girls with fantastic voices. MACH is amazing. Nothing short of utter excellence. I have no idea how to even explain it. Disco-ish? Nah. Funky? Possibly. Retro? Maybe. This song never bores me. Over 100 listens later, I’m still hooked.

Honorable Mentions

G.N.O. – Wonder Girls [Wonder World]

This song was very, very close to making it into the top 10. WG’s upgrade into a sleek, classy, but still funky girl group did not disappoint. G.N.O. is fierce, fun, and sexy. It’s a club song and still retains that Wonder Girls spice.

Cleansing Cream – Brown Eyed Girls [Cleansing Cream]

I tried to avoid putting BEG twice because it would just end up overpowering everything else ;] Cleansing Cream was definitely not an expected song after Sixth Sense. It’s an emotional ballad with a fantastic message and video. Wow, how BEG can just make everything work.

Sweet Dream – Rainbow [SO 女 (Repackage)]

Rainbow’s summer “single” kept me hooked all July and August. It’s super catchy and addictive. The light-hearted, sweet melody really keeps you interested. I was very happy with this one.

10. MINMINMIN – SDN48 [MINMINMIN]

SDN’s third single title track comes in at number 10. I’ve been an SDN48 fan since the beginning and I’ve never been disappointed with a single song. The only thing I am dissatisfied with is the fact that their whole lineup will be gone in March. But that’s besides the point. MINMINMIN is a very SDN-esque song(whatever that may be) with a minor electronic sound. There’s something about SDN’s style that draws me in. I have no idea what it is but it’s too inviting to ignore. MINx3 is a downright favorite of 2011.

09. Kono Chikyuu no Heiwa wo Honki de Negatterun da yo! – Morning Musume [Kono Chikyuu.. / Kare to Issho..]

Ai’s last single with Morning Musume honestly did not disappoint me. I really didn’t know what to expect exactly but I’m glad it wasn’t corny or tacky. I’m a big fan of disco-esque, funky songs–those who read my blog would know. This song reminds me of MM’s unity and fun ‘personality.’ It’s an uplifting and happy song. I could not help but love this at first listen. I’m really happy that such an important single was actually a good one.

08. Joshikai The Night – Berryz Koubou [7 Berryz Times]

I really don’t have the slightest idea why I am addicted to this song so much. It might be because it has a circus-like, fun, electronic-rock sound. Either way, I was addicted to this song when I first listened to it. It’s very whimsical and playful but still dark in a sense. It’s very, very fun to listen to and I still can’t get enough of it.

07. Baby U! – MBLAQ [Baby U!]

Normally, I hate when a group goes from Korea -> Japan or vise versa. It pains me even more when their debut is just a previous song of theirs in a different language. Like, how uncreative could you be? I understand the remake song being a coupling track, but the actual title track? But, like always, MBLAQ never ceases to fail me. Baby U! is their second Japanese single and it’s just plain good. The single contains awesome songs that either make you wanna get up and dance or sing along and sway from side to side. Baby U! is upbeat, catchy, and lovable. I love it, love it, love it. And like always, the boys sound great.

06. Only You – JASMINE [Only You]

JASMINE is a creative, beautiful soul with such amazing talent that it’s hard to comprehend sometimes. I’ve been a fan of hers for over a year now and I’ve most definitely stayed faithful. If you love the RnB, beat-infectious scene, you’ll absolutely adore JASMINE. Only You is J’s 7th single and is as good as the rest. You all know I’m a sucker for pianos, so this song has to be on here. Along with J’s purely gorgeous vocals, this is one of those songs you just have to hear to believe. I could go on about how fucking talented J is, but that’s why I have The Ultimate Profiling ;]

05. My alright sky – Airi Suzuki [Partenza]

Okay, yeah, you’re probably like, “WTF? *head tilt*” But the piano and RnB beat works its magic yet again here. Although it’s Airi(and you all know I am not an Airi fan), she does the song justice. Anyone else, most likely, wouldn’t have been able to execute it in the same way. I find it odd that it’s in a Buono! album(the most un-Buono! album ever created, to be exact), but it is a really beautiful song. I was pretty surprised that I would even like it, but I did. Seriously, take a listen; I guarantee it’ll keep you intrigued.

04. Glitter – Perfume [Spice]

I do have to say, 2011 wasn’t really the year for Perfume. While downloading and listening to their 2011 singles/album, I was quite surprised that nothing truly stood out to me; I was beginning to worry that Perfume wouldn’t even be on this list. But then Glitter came along, and wow, was I in love. I like when Perfume’s songs have heavy techno sound but can still be a vocal song. That desire was totally fulfilled in a little package covered in Glitter~ It’s addicting, long, and worth listening to. This is the definition of the Perfume I enjoy.

03. WOWTOWN – Aira Mitsuki x Saori@destiny [PARK OF THE SAFARI]

This collab album was one of the best albums/releases this year, if not the best. At first, I was doubting its excellence, but oh man, once I truly sat down and gave it a good listen, it was a.ma.zing. The third track, WOWTOWN, is my overall favorite of the album. Its disco funk is to die for. It has to be a Michael Jackson inspired song in some way or form because the two make plenty of references to MJ. This song doesn’t fail to make me wanna jump up and just start dancing. God, words cannot even describe how much I love this song.

02. Aa, Yoru ga Akeru – Berryz Koubou [Aa, Yoru ga Akeru]

It’s true that Berryz most recent singles haven’t been up to par with releases from a few years back. And yes, this disappoints me because Berryz is basically a veteran group that has been around for nearly 8 years. I always want them to be at their best since they’re my favorite J-pop group of all time. But sadly, that can’t always be the case. However, August was graced with a fantastic single by Berryz. Aa, Yoru ga Akeru has a mature, dancey feel that Berryz always seems to be masters of. Not to mention all of the girls sound great.

01. Natsu DAKARA! – Buono! [Natsu DAKARA!]

After a year long hiatus, Buono! came back with a mediocre single. Months came and went and soon, another single was announced–a summer-themed single, to be exact. Boom. Natsu DAKARA! was released and the mixed feelings came rushing in. Some people liked it, some didn’t; some thought it was un-Buono!-like, some enjoyed its sweetness. I fell under the “omg-this-is-the-best-Buono!-song-I’ve-heard-in-forever” group. I shook my head at the people who thought it wasn’t Buono!’s style, laughed in the faces of people who thought it was boring, and sang like a banshee every time it played. I. Was. Obsessed. Seriously, this song is great. It’s soothing. It’s sweet. It’s playful. It’s fun. It’s cheerful. Not Buono? WHAT? Just because there wasn’t loud guitars and banging drums doesn’t mean it wasn’t Buono! The acoustic guitar gave that summer fun feel while still keeping Buono!’s personality. This was definitely the song of the year, hands down.

Honorable Mentions

Heroine ni Narou ka! – Berryz Koubou [Heroine ni Narou ka!]

This song packed a punch. It had a great electro dance beat with awesome vocals by the girls. It kept you listening and never let you down. It was a fantastic way for Berryz to start their year; however, it just couldn’t beat the other Berryz songs.

Kiss Me Aishiteru – C-ute [Kiss Me Aishiteru]

KMA irked my last nerve when I first heard it; I thought it was too fast and repetitive for its own good. But gradually, it started growing on me and the infectious beat and great dancey vibe sank into my soul. Unfortunately, it wasn’t good enough to make it into the top 10.

I SEE ME – BoA [Milestone]

BoA hasn’t really released anything great, imo, since Hurricane Venus–and even that album had a few sketchy songs. However, when I heard BoA would be celebrating her ten years in Japan’s music universe, I thought, “Hey, this has to be good.” I wasn’t necessarily disappointed, but I still wasn’t blown away. Milestone is a good song, but it’s nothing I haven’t heard before, and its too short for its own good. I SEE ME, imo, is a much stronger song with more to take from. BoA sounds amazing and does the instrumental great justice. It’s a really fantastic song.

S/mileage’s upcoming 8th single, Please Mini-skirt Post Woman!, is set to release on December 28th, 2011. The official full PV is above. It’s a fairly long song, that gives me a VOCALOID-type vibe. It’s not my favorite S/mileage song but it isn’t bad. The PV is cute; it has a story-type setting, dance version, individual close-up, and a S/mileage-esque close-up. Overall: I think the PB was really, really good. Her wardrobe was really interesting and sophisticated and sassy. I’m glad that there wasn’t anything skimpy or sketchy. Mariko is so damn photogenic, she could make a paper bag look good. I don’t think I found one photo where I double-took and thought, Wtf? This brings us to the title of the post–Mariko is just too gorgeous for words. I seriously think she is one of those girls that just wakes up beautiful. There weren’t many pictures that I disliked. The only thing I really have to criticize about the book is the setting decisions. Most of the places were super pretty, like the rivers and waterfall areas. But some of the settings were out of place according to the outfit–like the sink and daytime bridge. Regardless, I really enjoyed the photobook and Mariko is just stunning. Period.

There’s been some drastic changes in S/mileage this year. Our first bomb is the addition of new members. That’s something that absolutely nobody saw coming–or even wanted, for that matter. Along with these newbies, we get the news that Sakichi is leaving. That definitely struck a cord with me, considering that Ogawa was my second favorite Sumaireji and one of my very favorite H!P kids. But no, that’s not all. Our third bomb of the year is the graduation of Yuuka Maeda.

That’s right folks, Yuuka is the next S/mileage member to leave the group, and the second original member. Back in May, when we first got the announcement of new members, Yuuka and Saki were the two that were not thrilled of the news. Now, I’m not saying that that is the reason these two are leaving. According to the announcement, Yuuka wants to focus on getting into college, and she’ll be saying goodbye on December 31st. It sounds pretty reasonable, considering that she’s 17 this year and college is only a year away. On the flip side, Saki’s graduation was because she felt that she wasn’t as confident as she felt that she should be. And this statement was said around the time the new members were announced. Does this mean that the new members were basically their tickets to leave? Since the members are here, it’s not like it would be a major hit to the group if the left, right? It’s possible, but it might not even be the case. We’ll never really know the conclusion to that argument. But, do you think that the girls still would’ve left even if there were no new members?

Buono!’s upcoming single entitled, DEEP MIND, is set to release on January 18th, 2012. A full-length preview is above. Personally, I’m loving it. It’s that really hardcore Buono! that people have been craving lately. I hope that the PV can keep up with it.

In addition to their upcoming single, Buono! will be performing in Paris, France on February 12, 2012. It’ll be their first time in Europe and the second time a Hello! Project group has visited Europe. It could’ve been Buono!’s second appearance in Europe but the Sweden Japan Expo was cancelled a year or two ago. I know the French love H!P, considering the large reception of Morning Musume’s visit over there.

Speaking of foreign performances, another beloved group of mine is making an appearance in an unexpected place. This also has to be the announcement of the month(announcement of the year belongs to Saki’s graduation). Berryz Koubou, my favorite J-pop group of all time; the girls that got me into H!P and J-pop; these wonderful, gorgeous, idolized young women are coming back to the States. Where, exactly? New Jersey. New. Jersey. Do you understand how unbelievably shocked and ecstatic I was when I first saw this? No, of course you can’t, I said it was unbelievable. But seriously, no J-pop artist ever comes to the East Coast. And now they are. They are. I never thought this would happen. I only dreamed about it, but never really considered the chances of them coming over here. But they are! And not in New York, not in some other east coast state. New freaking Jersey. My state. I can’t even explain how happy 2012 is going to make me. I am already dying to register for this Japan convention. Calling all east coasters, calling all New Jersians, COME TO THIS CON! We have to show them that they have fans on the east coast, too! Better yet, let’s beat the west coast! Come on!! We have to show Berryz our love!! <33

Above, you’ll see the very…very…terrible PV for S/mileage’s Tachiagaaru. The single released on September 28th. I…really have no words to explain how cheap and sad this PV is. I just don’t get what they were going for. The outfits are cute and Sumaireji-esque, but the execution is just awful. Why the fuck are they in the desert? Why the fuck are there UFOs? Why the fuck were the producers drunk when they did this? I thought they couldn’t come up with anything more retarded than being in space–I was obviously wrong. Promotional pictures are below.

10. JUICY HE@RT

An instead fan-favorite; one listen proves why. This song is just so awesome. All of the instruments go together so perfectly–I’m really loving the drums. The tiny element of the “dinging” sound works as well. I also think all of them sound great. And the way they say “Juicy” is just adorable. It’s like one of them is actually saying it with an “s” sound and the others are using “sh.” x’D

09. Janakya Mottainai!

Oh, the guitar in this song is just pure love. It sounds just so damn awesome and makes you wanna head-bang forever. But then the chorus comes along and it’s a bit softer but still maintains a rock mentality. The instrumental break is one of my favorite of theirs. Even though it was their 2nd single, they did a great job singing this.

08. Kokoro no Tamago

Oh, my lawd, how I was in love with this song when I first heard it. It was so fun and cute and sweet. I loved it. It has a funky, jazzy feel to it, but is still really adorable. I just love their singing here, ‘specially Momo. It’s just a lovable song altogether.

07. Runaway Train

This song is really head-bobbing. It makes me wanna get up and rock out, lol. It’s one of the more “true rock” Buono! songs. It’s really fun and brightening, as well. When I hear this song play, it really helps to lift my mood. It’ll always bring a smile to my face. Runaway Train gets number 7 for being happy and smooth.

06. Ice Mermaid

One of those old-school sounding songs but still manages to keep a modern, fun feel. It has jazzy elements and makes it that much better. On top of that, all of them sing absolutely awesome in this song. Their octaves are a bit deeper than usual and it works perfectly. I love when Momo sings deep, it’s like her real singing voice. This is just an awesome b-side for an awesome single.

05. Kirai Suki Daikirai

Kirai Suki Daikirai is super fun and addicting. It has a very happy and uplifting feel. At first, the verses are soft, then the choruses are awesome–the drums really own the show there. This song is an awesome summer song. It’s one of those songs that you sing along and act all wild. Deserves the number 5 spot, all the way.

04. Muteki no ∞ Power

This song is fun and happy! I couldn’t stop listening when it first came out. It’s definitely much better than the a-side, co.no.mi.chi. I love the fast paced-ness and the awesome guitar. The chorus is really upbeat–I love the note changing at every syllable. Just an awesome Buono! b-side.

03. Warp!

Oh, Warp! is just irresistible. If you say you don’t like this song, you’re lying. It has such an inspirational feel that makes you wanna get up and sing along. The chorus is especially lovable. It’s a song that if you were to sing live, everyone would be jumping up and down. Totally deserves a number 3 spot.

02. Lady Panther

Oh, man. You all know I have a thing for those disco-esque, funky songs. Lady Panther is just the definition of a great jitterbug-type song. Seriously, I don’t know how anyone could not like this song. It’s so fun and I can never skip it. It just makes you wanna snap your fingers and sway your body side to side.

01. My Love

The number one b-side goes to My Love. Why? Because it just defines Buono!’s flare, uniqueness, and perfection. It’s funky, it’s rock, it’s fun, it’s upbeat. It just defines Buono!. The chorus is so catchy and dancey. I just cannot get enough of this song. One of the best Buono! songs and obviously the best b-side.

Just the other day, 4 new girls were added to the roster of Morning Musume as 10th generation members. It feels like just yesterday I was talking about the other 4 girls: Kanon, Riho, Mizuki, and Erina. Since then, Morning Musume is now a 12-nin group, lost Ai Takahashi, and is under a new line-up that most of us might not be familiar with.

From left to right, the girls are: Haruna Iikubo, Ayumi Ishida, Masaki Satou, and Haruka Kudou. Haruna is a 16-going-on-17 year old girl whom modeled for the magazine, Love Berry. Ayumi Ishida was previously a member of the group Dorothy Little Happy from the label, avex trax; she is 14 years old. Masaki Satou is a 12 year old with not much baggage behind her. Haruka is a previous Hello! Pro Egg and beats the youngest age of a MM member at 11 years old–but soon will be 12. I can’t say that any of these faces surprises or pleases me because I did not follow the 10th gen auditions at all–that should be obvious by the fact that I never posted anything about it prior. Ever since EriJunLin graduated, Morning Musume has not been the same for me. That little spark has died. From just an outsider’s glance, these girls seem to be better chosen than 9th generation. I feel as though they might have talent rather than just a cute face or pretty smile(and this is from a person who’s never seen them do shit yet). But, however, even though 10th gen might have this talent, 9th gen seem like a more lovable quartet.

In addition to the 10th gen members being added to Morning Musume, the group lost their leader the very next day. Ai Takahashi graduated from Hello! Project as a whole yesterday with virtually no reason but to move on with her life. Now that Takahashi is gone, Risa Niigaki will take over as leader and Sayumi Michishige as the sub-leader. I’m still betting that this line-up won’t last for very long and Risa might leave within the next year. Takahashi is now an ambassador of her hometown, Fukui–which…puzzles me a bit. Either way, have fun, Takahashi. Go get a boyfriend, get married, and have some kids~
